Most of you that have been following my page for awhile have learned one thing about me, I go through any open door, figuratively and literally!!!
About a month ago someone on the Abandoned Homes of North Carolina Facebook page sent me a private message saying they saw an advertisement for a new reality competition show produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and they thought I would be a fit for it. I looked into it and agreed! I filled out the online application and really expected to not hear another word about it. I originally filled it out for Wendy and me to be a team. You need teams of two for this show.
Lo and behold my phone rang last night and it was a California phone call…..uhm, what the heck??? I had forgotten about even filling out the application. Not answering that! A couple of minutes later my phone chimed that I had a voicemail. Huh??? From California???
It was a casting producer from the show!!!! I literally started laughing hysterically and immediately called Wendy to let her know. She laughed also and couldn’t believe it!!! The producer called me today and the first thing he asked me was…….Can you talk or are you climbing into an abandoned building right now????
“Not today, but I wish I was!” 🙂
He said, “I have good news and bad news.” (keep in mind I have never spoken with this person before so that kind of confused me.
“Lay it on me!”
“Good news….tens of thousands applied to be on this show. The fact that I am on the phone with you is a big and exciting thing! Your application has been red flagged as a big one. Bad news…..We need you with a family member. Do you have one willing to do it??”
He caught me off guard. I thought about my 22 year old son, Taylor. We discussed that for a bit. My thought was, no. I love my son dearly, but being on tv would be embarrassing for him, he is not overly competitive and I would come across as a controlling horrible drill sergeant mom because I don’t like to lose at anything and when a million dollars is on the line. I would become the most hated person on social media.
Then I thought…..holy crap!!! I forgot about my younger brother, lol. The initial question threw me for a loop and caught me off guard. I have the PERFECT family member!!!! He is only 30. He is good looking and probably just as competitive as me!!! We have SHUT DOWN the poker tables at the The Greenbrier in West Virginia. He and I will go head to head in HUGE poker hands because neither one of us wants to back down. And his job is…..a poker player. He can be anywhere at any time!!!
The premise of the show. There is a “runner” and this person is trying to get to a specified city before the teams of “chasers” find them. The teams of chasers are given clues for locations. Once at a location they have to complete a puzzle or a task before they can move on. Not completely clear on the exact show details, but I do know that my brother and I fit the bill for what they are looking for: You and your partner must be outgoing, clever, and yes, in good shape! You must be savvy, street smart, and able to withstand possible extreme conditions.
I was told once I submitted a second application for my brother and me that my application would be hand picked, red flagged and moved to the top of the stack.
Will we be the next reality TV millionaires???? Or can I just meet Matt Damon and Ben Affleck?????
My GQ looking brother, Matt.
Either way, we are ready to move on to the next level of casting which is a Skype interview with producers!! I am happy we made it to the phone call level!! Fingers crossed for us!! Send good vibes!! Like I told my brother tonight…..let’s do this for Jennifer. She would have been SOOOOOOO into this.
